India's MoD biggest sky hunt begins - Duration: 4:19.
Welcome to WARN, Today News is.
India's MoD biggest sky hunt begins
India has launched the worlds biggest hunt for fighter jets in recent years.
From single-engine to twin-engine, global players have been invited to build nearly
300 fighter jets here on the basis of foreign technology under Prime Minister Narendra Modis
Make in India campaign.
Though all eyes are on Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to announce its much-awaited strategic
partnership model, the main focus will be towards developing an indigenous defence industry.
In view of Indias biggest hunt for its fighter jets inventory, all defence majors
showcased their best products in Aero India in Bengaluru from February 14 to 18.
In the category of singleengine jets, Swedens Saab and Americas Lockheed Martin have
offered to shift their production line of fighter jets, the Gripen-E and F-16 (Block
70) respectively, to India, if chosen by the Indian government.
While aviation giant Boeing pitched its F-A/18 Hornet, Swedens Saab AB also offered the
naval version of its Gripen fighter to the Indian Navy with an offer to build it
in India.
However, last week US President Donald Trump asked US-based Lockeed Martinwhich makes
F-16sto take a fresh look at its proposal to set up a production line in India
for combat jets.
The IAF announced its fresh fighter programme last year, months after it signed a contract
to buy 36 Rafale warplanes from France for $8.85 billion.
IAF placed a requirement of over 200 single-engine fighter jets to replace its aging fleet of
Russian MiG-21s, which have been in service for nearly 50 years.
The IAF is operating with a depleting fleet of 34 squadrons compared to the sanctioned
strength of 42, and it is desperately eyeing to fill the shortage of its fighter jet strength
in the multi-medium role category.
In 2015, the government had scrapped the decade-old multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) contract
and finalised 36 Rafale jets in place of 126 MMRCA to meet the urgent requirement of the
IAF.
Last month the Navy invited global manufacturers to pitch for 57 planes for its aircraft carriers,
a multi-billion dollar order that the government had hoped would go to the state-run producers
of indigenously designed and developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.
Earlier, Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba said the sea version (LCA Navy) was not up to
the mark and it could not take off from an aircraft carrier once weapons were loaded.
The Indian Navy has 45 MIG-29K jets for operations from INS Vikramaditya and from the under construction
aircraft carrier .
The proposed procurement for multi-role carrier-borne fighter jets comes after 10 years when the
Navy decided to buy MIG-29Ks from Russia for INS Vikramaditya.
The aircraft carrier was also built by Russia.
INS Vikrant is now under construction at Cochin and is likely to be inducted by 2019.

Learn English - Weekly Tip 19 for Spanish Speakers - the future and present tense (subtitled) - Duration: 1:59.
Hi once again all, and welcome to 'One
English Tip in One Minute for Spanish
Speakers' where every week I talk about,
in detail, one common English mistake
made by those who speak Spanish as a
mother tongue, and this is the 19th video...
so video number 19.
As always, I totally appreciate the
fact that you are working to improve
your English. It's a very cool and smart
thing to do. In these videos I show
you a slide, and on the side there are
two sentences:
One is the correct way, the other is the
wrong way that a Spanish speaker might
say it. You need to decide which one
is correct. Do that now. Read the
sentences,
listen to me read the sentences, pause
the video, think about your answer and I
will discuss the answer in the slide
that follows this slide.
If you got this wrong -- or you just happened
to guess right -
it's no big deal. It just means
you have to...first of all you have to
understand the reason for the mistake,
which hopefully you do now.
Second, you have to study to get past
that mistake. To start you off on
that path - it's a very simple beginning, I
know-- but I've given you three sentences
to study from. Again, study the
sentences in their entirety, review
review review-- really get them into your
head -- and put into practice what you've
learned through speaking or writing or
both. Eventually you will stop making
this mistake and you will be the master.

New bill aims to make it easier for child sex abuse victims to seek justice, though some activist... - Duration: 3:26.
ALBANY - The state Assembly has introduced a bill designed to make it easier for child sex abuse victims to seek legal recourse, though it does not go nearly as far as some survivors want.
Under the bill introduced late last week by new sponsor Assemblywoman State Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, seen at a Child Victims Act rally on Jan. 4, has proposed new legislation for young people who suffer sex abuse to seek justice. (D-Manhattan), a criminal case could be brought up to a victim's 28th birthday.
Under current law, the five-year statute of limitation for a child sex abuse survivor starts at 18 and runs through a person's 23rd birthday.
Rosenthal's bill would also start the statute of limitation for a victim to bring a civil lawsuit at the person's 50th birthday and would treat public institutions the same as private entities when it comes to sexual abuse cases.
Under current law, a child who is sexually abused at a school or other public institution has to inform of his or her intent to sue within 90 days of the incident occurring.
The Assembly bill would also create a window giving victims who can no longer sue under current law six months to bring cases.
The provisions of Rosenthal's bill fall short of one proposed in the Senate by Brad Hoylman (D-Manhattan) and of what Gov. Cuomo said he will push.
Hoylman and Cuomo want to eliminate entirely the legal timeframe to bring a criminal child sex abuse case. Hoylman would also do away with the statute of limitation to bring civil cases while Cuomo would give people 50 years from the time they were abused.
Michael Polenberg of Safe Horizon with child sex abuse survivors Stephen Jimenez, Christopher Anderson, Ana Wagner, Kathryn Robb and Dorothy Robb Farrell after meeting Gov. Cuomo to discuss the Child Victims Act in May.
(Jefferson Siegel/New York Daily News)
The two would also enact a one-year window for those currently barred from bringing cases to do so instead of the six months Rosenthal's bill would provide. Like Rosenthal's bill, Cuomo and Hoylman also would treat public and private institutions the same as relating to sex abuse cases.
Sexual abuse survivors don't believe Rosenthal's bill goes far enough.
"I'm not supporting that bill, that's for sure," said Gary Greenberg, a survivor who created a political action committee to fight for passage of the Child Victims Act. "I'll wait for the governor to submit his bill. I anticipate that will be a strong bill and I'll support that.
I'm with the governor on this."
Sexual abuse survivor and advocate Kathryn Robb was pleased the Assembly is open to the issue, but agreed the bill isn't strong enough.
"It is a positive step, but justice is miles away and children remain in harm's way," she said.
She called Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie a man of integrity, but urged him and others in Albany to "spend time getting to know the real issues around sexual abuse of children and step away from their unknowing allegiance to sexual predators and finally stand on the side of justice.
Hoylman on Jan. 4.
(Jefferson Siegel/New York Daily News)
"We hope they can make this a more meaningful bill for victims and children," Robb added.
Rosenthal called her bill, which has 35 co-sponsors and is similar to one introduced last year in the Assembly, "our starting-off point."
"As with all bills, it's subject to input from the stakeholders," she said.
This is the first year Rosenthal is leading the issue in the Assembly. Longtime sponsor Margaret Markey lost her Democratic primary last year.
Rosenthal said she's already getting input from advocates about their most important needs for any final bill "to ensure those harmed in the past are able to gain a measure of justice."
The Senate Republican majority, which has blocked previous versions of the Child Victims Act from coming to the floor for a vote, also remains a big obstacle.

This Powerful New Technology May Be The Only Way To Explore Venus - Duration: 4:08.
Imagine we've successfully landed a robot on Venus!
Nice job... [pause, checks watch] Annnd now it's dead.
Hello fellow carbon-based lifeforms, Ian here for DNews.
I want you to imagine building a robot that can land on the surface of Venus.
Actually, imagine building a robot that will land on the surface of HELL and you'll have
a better idea of what to expect.
Yes, Venus is a toxic hellhole that's not only hot enough on the surface to melt lead,
but the thick carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere has a pressure about 90 times greater than
Earth's.
This isn't very good news for any robots we want to send there to explore the planet
and do science.
But there IS hope.
NASA engineers at the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, are developing a new kind
of integrated circuit that not only survives the rigors of being in space, it could also
allow the delicate electronics inside Venus landers to live 100 times longer than previous
efforts.
It's not like we haven't tried landing on Venus before.
From the 1960s to the 1980s, the Soviet Union tried to send a series of 16 spacecraft to
Venus as part of the Venera program — which included flybys, atmospheric probes and landers.
Of the early landing attempts, Venera 3 to Venera 6 either burned up, crashed or got
crushed by Venus' atmosphere.
Even though it got crushed before touchdown, Venera 4 has the historic distinction as being
the first probe to transmit data from another planet's atmosphere in 1967.
In 1970, Venera 7 made history as the first ever soft landing on another planet.
It sent back 23 minutes of data before dying.
After this, the Soviets had more success from Venera 8 — which landed in 1972, returning
50 minutes of data.
Venera 9 landed in 1975 and took the first ever black and white photos from another planet's
surface.
Venera 13, in 1981, and 14, in 1982, returned color panoramic views from Venus' surface,
revealing the alien geology and incredibly hazy atmosphere.
In 1984, Russia launched the two Vega missions that included landers and atmospheric balloons.
The US even gave Venus a go when they parachuted probes to the surface during the 1978 Pioneer
Venus mission.
One of the probes continued to transmit data an hour after landing on the surface.
But all Venus surface missions quickly succumbed to the extreme heat and pressure, most lasting
for less than a couple of hours.
Venera 13 holds the record, lasting 127 minutes before melting.
Although our technology has advanced since this exciting era of Venus exploration, we
still don't have the ability to protect them from the extreme environment for very
long.
Conventional silicon circuits stop working at high temperatures long before they start
to melt.
But now, NASA engineers are testing an extremely durable "silicon carbide semiconductor integrated
circuit" — it's a circuit made out of a new silicon mix that continues to function
as a circuit should, only at much higher temperatures.
It was originally being developed for use in hot sections of fuel-efficient aircraft.
Knowing that they could tolerate temperatures up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, the NASA engineers
placed samples of the circuit into the Glenn Extreme Environments Rig (GEER).
This instrument not only replicates the temperatures found on Venus' surface, it also applies
the same pressures.
And after 521 hours of extreme testing, the integrated circuits continued to operate as
designed.
To use conventional electronics in space, heavy shielding is needed to protect delicate
components.
If this new circuit technology is used for space robots, I'd imagine that this shielding
may not be required, reducing weight, boosting electronics longevity in harsh environments,
reducing launch weight and ultimately costs.
But the thing that makes this kind of tech development REALLY interesting is the very
obvious applications a highly durable integrated circuit has on Earth.
Robotics are used in a range of industries and are increasingly being used in extremely
hazardous environments — building tougher electronics to boost their operational lives
would obviously be a bonus.

Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta blasts Trump for 'dysfunctional' handling of national secur... - Duration: 1:41.
Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Sunday blasted President Trump's approach to handling national security as "dysfunctional."
"The thing that you worry about a great deal, particularly now with the loss of a national security adviser, you don't have somebody in that place," Panetta said on NBC's "Meet the Press," about the resignation last week of Michael Flynn, who stepped down after admitting he misled officials about conversation he had with the Kremlin before Trump was sworn in.
"The National Security Council hasn't even met formally," Panetta added.
Panetta also criticized President Trump for his refusal to criticize Russia.
(NICHOLAS KAMM/AFP/Getty Images)
"What happens if there's a major crisis that faces this country? If Russia engages in a provocation, if Iran does something stupid, if North Korea does something stupid and we have to respond, where is the structure to be able to evaluate that threat, consider it, and provide options to the President?" Panetta said.
"Right now, that's dysfunctional, and that's what worries me a great deal."
Panetta, who also worked as CIA Director under Obama, also took aim at Trump's refusal to criticize Russia for its efforts to meddle in the U.S. election, saying that Russia should be seen as an adversary "without question."
Michael Flynn stepped down after admitting he misled officials about conversation he had with the Kremlin before Trump was sworn in.
(JIM LO SCALZO/EPA)
"If (Trump) listens to the people that are closest to him now, and that are responsible for our foreign policy and our defense policy, that he'll understand that Russia is an adversary, it's not a friend," he said. "Their main purpose is to destabilize the United States and Western democracies. And they've shown that in everything they've done."

Self-Care and Artist-Care - self care ideas - creativity challenge - Duration: 2:46.
hello everybody welcome to break and
remake I'm your host Joan. Today we're
going to talk about self-care and
artists care. We need to take care of
ourselves during these times, first step
let's talk about self-care. Do the most
important thing first and that helps
with figuring out which pampering item
you want to do for yourself and how to
get your to-do list done. Prioritize your
favorite thing to do for yourself you
want to get a mani-pedi? Do you want to get
a massage?
That sounds like a good list! Whatever your
favorite thing is to do you do that
Let's talk about prioritizing your to-do
list
I seem to sabotage myself do what really
matters on your to-do list. Prioritize
the thing that's going to be do first
and go from there
I like this are adding silly things on to
my to do list like rearrange my office
suddenly I don't have the thing i need
to get the job that prioritize what
actually needs to happen to get the job
done and let go of anything that doesn't
have to do with the goal. Next up I
want to talk about artists' care,
taking care of the creative person that
was inside of you, when you have to do
work, when you have to wash the dishes
Oh, actually washing the dishes sometimes
people go crazy for washing the dishes
because that's when their creative ideas
come. My crazy ideas do not come i wash
dishes my challenge to you is to do
something fun for your inner artist. Set a
timer for yourself no more than 15 minutes
and do something completely out of your
medium that you're working on or the
creative project that you're trying to
tackle. Just do something silly,
delightful, crazy, dumb just get your
creative mind working. The second thing I
want to talk to you about is the weird way
in which our creative minds work. Do that
thing you all have that thing that makes
your brain think. Mine is driving long
distances which is nice I live in LA,
everywhere I drive is a long distance and
when I sleep. When I sleep my mind fixes
my problems for me it's very nice
so whatever it is for you, if it's a walk,
if it washing dishes, we talked about
this, if it's taking a shower. Do that thing
that makes your mind
daydream and wander. So in these times where we're
feeling very stressed
there's a lot of work to be done. Take
time out to care for yourself. If you
tackle any self care or artist care
items, let me know in the comments and I've also
put in the description below some really
good tips and tricks I found on
different websites. So go ahead and read
through that if you are feeling
overwhelmed with with my woo. We'll see you
next week
