TAKING A CLOSE LOOK

AT A BIG AND DICEY SUBJECT KNOWN AS DIVORCE. IT IS

A HOTLY CONTESTED ISSUE IN THE CHURCH TODAY AS IT WAS IN THE

DAY OF JESUS. IF YOU RECALL, THERE ARE 2 COMPETING POSITIONS,

2 FACTIONS ON THE SUBJECT OF DIVORCE. ARE WE GOING TO BE

BIBLICAL LITERALISTS AND SAY, NO NO NO NO, NO DI-GOD HATES

DIVORCE. OR ARE WE GOING TO BE REALLY LIBERAL WHERE A MAN CAN

JUST BOOT A WOMAN, UNLOAD IS THE LANGUAGE, UNLOAD A WOMAN FOR ANY

REASON? JESUS SETTLED THE DEBATE. WE ARE LITERAL

INTERPRETERS OF THE BIBLE, SO IF YOU'RE ASKING ABOUT THAT VERSE,

I SIDE WITH MOSES, AND WHEN YOU READ THAT JESUS APPEARS TO GIVE

NO EXCEPTIONS, YOU NEED TO REMEMBER THE CONTEXT TELLS US HE

WAS SIMPLY ANSWERING THE QUESTION, WHICH WAY ARE WE GOING

TO GO WITH THIS SUBJECT? LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE? AND WHAT DO YOU

KNOW, HE CAME OUT ON THE CONSERVATIVE SIDE. HAVING SAID

THAT, WE RUN TO THE REST OF OUR BIBLE TO SEE WHAT THE SCRIPTURES

TEACH US ABOUT THE SUBJECT OF DIVORCE. LO AND BEHOLD, WE

DISCOVER THERE ARE INDEED, CAREFULLY APPLIED, SOME

EXCEPTIONS. THIS IS EXCEPTION #1, MATTHEW 19. THEY SAID TO

JESUS, WHY THEN DID MOSES COMMEND ONE TO GIVE A

CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND TO SEND HER AWAY AND JESUS SAID TO

THEM, BECAUSE OF YOUR HARDNESS OF HEART, MOSES ALLOWED YOU TO

DIVORCE YOUR WIVES, BUT FROM THE BEGINNING IT WAS NOT SO, AND I

SAY TO YOU - THIS IS JESUS- WHOEVER DIVORCES HIS WIFE EXCEPT

FOR ONGOING SEXUAL IMMORALITY, AND MARRIES ANOTHER, COMMITS

ADULTERY. THIS SEEMS PRETTY CLEAR. WHOEVER DIVORCES HIS OR

HER SPOUSE, EXCEPT FOR SEXUAL IMMORALITY, THEN IT'S A SIN. DO

YOU SEE HOW THE BIBLE WORKS? WE TAKE JESUS IN MARK 10 AND WE

COMBINE HIM WITH JESUS IN MATTHEW 19 AND WE GO, OH, I SEE.

SO THERE ARE SOME EXCEPTIONS BUT WE CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND JESUS'

ATTITUDE AND POSITION ON THE SUBJECT OF DIVORCE. PLEASE

REMEMBER THAT THIS ISSUE OF SEXUAL IMMORALITY INSIDE OF A

MARRIAGE REALLY MUST BE DONE IN CONSULTATION WITH YOUR PASTOR.

THERE ARE SOME WHO MIGHT SAY, ONE ACT OF SEXUAL IMMORALITY AND

YOU CAN DIVORCE THE BUM. OTHERS, MYSELF INCLUDED, WOULD SAY IT'S

AN ONGOING, UNREPENTANT SEXUAL IMMORALITY THAT QUALIFIES FOR

DIVORCE. FURTHERMORE, WHAT IS SEXUAL IMMORALITY? IS IT

LITERALLY HAVING A PHYSICAL INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH

ANOTHER PERSON, OR CAN IT BE THE SIN OF PORNOGRAPHY? THOSE ISSUES

SHOULD BE SORTED OUT WITH YOUR PREACHER. PROMISE? REASON #2

THAT JESUS GIVES FOR DIVORCE IN I CORINTHIANS 7, IF ANY WOMAN

HAS A HUSBAND WHO IS AN UNBELIEVER AND HE CONSENTS TO

LIVE WITH HER, SHE SHOULD NOT DIVORCE HIM, FOR THE UNBELIEVING

HUSBAND IS MADE HOLY - HE DOESN'T GET SAVED JUST BECAUSE

HE'S LIVING WITH A CHRISTINA, LIVING WITH A BELIEVER, IT HELPS

SOMEBODY NOT BE SO NAUGHTY, THAT'S ALL IT'S SAYING- FOR THE

UNBELIEVING HUSBAND IS MADE HOLY BECAUSE OF HIS WIFE AND THE

UNBELIEVING WIFE IS MADE HOLY BECAUSE OF HER HUSBAND WHO

BELIEVES, OTHERWISE, YOUR CHILDREN WOULD BE UNCLEAN, BUT

AS IT IS, THEY ARE HOLY - NOT SAVED, IN A BETTER ENVIRONMENT.

HE CONTINUES, BUT IF THE UNBELIEVING PARTNER SEPARATES,

LET IT BE SO. IN SUCH CASES, THE BROTHER OR SISTER IS NOT

ENSLAVED. GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO PEACE. IF THE UNBELIEVING

PARTNER VAMOOSES, THEN YOU CAN GET DIVORCED. ONCE AGAIN,

PRACTICE CAUTION. HE GOES OUT TO THE BAR FOR 6 HOURS, THAT'S NOT

SEPARATING. MAYBE HE RUNS OFF TO AN APARTMENT SOMEPLACE FOR A

WEEK, THAT'S NOT SEPARATING. WHAT IS JESUS SAYING THROUGH THE

APOSTLE PAUL, IF YOUR UNBELIEVING SPOUSE ABANDONS YOU

AND IT IS A LONG ENOUGH TERM, WHICH NEEDS TO BE CONCLUDED WITH

YOUR LOCAL PASTOR, THEN DIVORCE IS ACCEPTABLE. NOT LIKED BY GOD,

BUT ACCEPTABLE. REASON #3. I CORINTHIANS 7 AND VERSE 39,

REXELLA, A WIFE IS BOUND TO HER HUSBAND AS LONG AS HE LIVES, BUT

IF HER HUSBAND DIES, SHE IS FREE TO BE MARRIED TO WHOM SHE WISHES

ONLY IN THE LORD. DO YOU REMEMBER THE VOWS FROM THE GOOD

OLD DAYS? YOU WERE IN A ONE-FLESH RELATIONSHIP WITH

ANOTHER HUMAN BEING TIL DEATH DO YOU PART, BECAUSE YOU CANNOT

CONTINUE TO BE IN A COVENANT RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEBODY WHO

IS SIMPLY NOT LIVING. THAT MEANS IF YOU ARE A WIDOW OR WIDOWER,

YOU ARE FREE TO REMARRY. WHY? BECAUSE YOU'RE NO LONGER IN THAT

CONTRACT. THAT COVENANT DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE BECAUSE THE OTHER

PARTNER IS DEAD. SO YOU CAN HAVE PERMISSION TO GET REMARRIED

BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T REALLY GET A DIVORCE ANYWAY. THE COVENANT

JUST GOES AWAY. IT'S NO LONGER IN EFFECT. THOSE ARE THE 3

CONSIDERATIONS THAT JESUS GIVES FOR GRANTING A DIVORCE.

REMEMBER, HE DOESN'T LIKE IT, BUT HE WILL PERMIT IT TO HAPPEN

IN SOME VERY SPECIFIC INSTANCES.

Independent counsel files for 30-day investigative extension - Duration: 2:10.

Turning to the massive corruption scandal in Korea...

The independent counsel requested a 30-day-extension for its investigation, saying it needs more

time to untangle the threads of the case.

Meanwhile, the fate of Samsung Group heir apparent Lee Jae-yong is hanging in the balance

as a court hears arguments on whether he should be arrested.

Hwang Hojun has the latest.

The independent counsel spokesperson said Thursday that the team has filed for a 30-day

extension of its original 90-day investigative mandate.

By law, the request for an extension must be made at least three days prior to the deadline

but can also be made earlier.

It will now be up to Hwang Kyo-ahn, the prime minister and the acting president, to decide

whether to grant the one-time extension.

"Unlike previous investigations, this one has so many more people and branches.

it won't be possible to complete the investigation by the 28th, and the acting president will

need time to review the request before making any decisions."

Shortly after the spokesperson had finished the briefing, the team came up against another

obstacle, after the Seoul Administrative Court rejected its request to override the presidential

office and let it search the premises.

The decision makes it impossible to force a search on the presidential office.

Meanwhile, the Seoul Central District Court is deliberating over whether to grant the

team's request for a second warrant to arrest Lee Jae-yong, the heir apparent of Samsung

Group

"Regarding the request for a second arrest warrant, I'm just going to say the independent

counsel has made sufficient preparations in advance."

In filing for the warrant on Tuesday, the counsel expanded the charges against Lee to

include diverting assets overseas and concealing the gains from a criminal act.

That's on top of the original charges of bribery, embezzlement and perjury the team filed against

Lee with its first arrest warrant request that was rejected last month.

"The fate of the Samsung chief -- whether he will return home as a free man or be forced

to remain in detention -- is expected to be decided on Thursday night or early Friday

morning.

Constitutional Court sets Feb. 24th as last hearing - Duration: 2:19.

The impeachment trial on President Park Geun-hye is finally heading toward a finish line...

as the Constitutional Court set the date for the last hearing for next Friday.

Kim Ji-yeon reports.

The Constitutional Court has set the last hearing for Februrary 24th and asked the legal

teams of both sides to make their closing arguments that day.

That means the ruling on the impeachment motion on President Park Geun-hye could be decided

upon in early March... before interim Chief Justice Lee Jung-mi's term ends on March 13th.

Justice Lee said the current confusion and chaos due to the lack of a state leader should

not continue and said that as important as a fair ruling... is a prompt one,... which

is why the court has been holding two or three hearings a week for the past two months.

The two sides' legal teams had different responses to the setting of a final hearing.

"We highly respect the court's decision to make a prompt ruling on the impeachment motion."

"We think the court has made a hasty and dangerous decision,... and we think February 24th is

too soon for closing arguments."

The president's lawyers said they need more time for the closing arguments than the date

the court specified.

The lawyers also said that they will consult with President Park about whether she herself

will appear for the hearings now that the date for the last hearing has been set.

As for Thursday's testimony in court, former K-Sports Foundation chairman Jeong Dong-chun

testified that he was recommended for his post by President Park's longtime confidante

Choi Soon-sil, who allegedly ran the foundation.

He noted that Choi's former associate Ko Young-tae is now serving as acting chairman.

Jeong also said he seriously doubts that there is any substantial content on the tablet PC

found last October allegedly belonging to Choi.

He observed that it had been discarded by both Choi and Ko and was not protected in

any way, which to him indicated it would not be storing things like the president's speeches

or itineraries for overseas travel.

"On Monday, three more witnesses are scheduled to testify, including former presidential

chief of staff Kim Ki-choon."

Revised Drake Equation Gives New Hope in the Search For Smart Aliens - Duration: 5:09.

Revised Drake Equation Gives New Hope in the Search For Smart Aliens.

As it turns out, the number of advanced alien civilizations in our universe could be much,

much higher than previously thought.

Five and a half decades ago, following years of research and listening to the cosmos, Dr.

Frank Drake and a group of enthusiastic astronomers came up with an equation that aimed to give

us a rough estimate of how many active and advanced alien civilizations could be out

there.

The famous equation makes use of seven variables (the rate of star formation in our galaxy,

the fraction of stars that can form planetary systems, the fraction of said planets that

could potentially support life and so on) but many alien hunters believe it to be a

bit outdated.

In the half century that elapsed since the equation was first presented, the Search for

Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program managed to amass a trove of data that gave

astronomers a new perspective on how the universe looked and behaved.

As a result of new parameters being understood, the Drake Equation needed to be adjusted.

A new study published in the Astrobiology scientific journal did just that by incorporating

recent exoplanet data gathered through Kepler and similar space programs.

The study also adds two new notions in the mix: pessimism and optimism and seeks to correlate

these factors with the effort to find alien life.

The question of whether advanced civilizations exist elsewhere in the universe has always

been vexed with three large uncertainties in the Drake equation, study coauthor Adam

Frank states.

Weve known for a long time approximately how many stars exist.

We didnt know how many of those stars had planets that could potentially harbor life,

how often life might evolve and lead to intelligent beings, and how long any civilizations might

last before becoming extinct.

In the past few years, NASAs Kepler satellite measured and photographed tens of thousands

of exoplanet candidates, leading astronomers to the solid assumption that one out of five

stars has planets in what is called the habitable zone, the area around a star where water

can exist in liquid form and thus create conditions favorable for life to arise and sustain itself.

The scientific world estimates the number of stars in our observable universe to be

around 2 billion trillion (2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) so you can already see life has had a great

chance to appear elsewhere.

But the two most troubling questions posed by the Drake equation remain unanswerable.

How often does life evolve?

and

How long does an alien civilization survive for?

Since mankind is still alive and kicking, the last question is particularly difficult

to answer and thats where the optimism/pessimism notions are factored in.

The study authors write that their method only needs to establish the probability of

mankind being the only intelligent species to have evolved in our universe.

This is the pessimism line.

If the actual probability is greater than the pessimism line, then a technological species

and civilization has likely happened before.

Drawing on SETI and Kepler data, the study established the probability of us being alone

at one in ten billion trillion, so chances are high that we really arent the sole

children of the cosmos.

Think of it this way, Frank said.

Before our result youd be considered a pessimist if you imagined the probability

of evolving a civilization on a habitable planet were, say, one in a trillion.

But even that guess, one chance in a trillion, implies that what has happened here on Earth

with humanity has in fact happened about a 10 billion other times over cosmic history!

The search for alien life has never been this hot.

The groundwork for a multi-million dollar mission to Alpha Centauri is currently being

laid out and scientists are outspoken in their optimism for finding alien life.

So it appears it wont be long until we finally have an answer to one of our oldest,

most pertinent questions.

Are we alone?

Gov't lays out regulatory reforms to boost AI, VR and fintech sectors - Duration: 2:52.

The Korean government has laid out a set of regulatory reforms for the artificial intelligence,

virtual reality and fintech sectors.

The goal for now is to create fresh growth momentum by encouraging businesses to make

full use of the new technologies.

Oh Jung-hee has the details.

The Korean government is easing regulations... to foster artificial intelligence as a new

growth engine for the country... and boost the related industries of virtual reality

and fintech.

Acting president Hwang Kyo-ahn endorsed the plans at a related ministers' meeting on Thursday.

"No matter how successful the research and development of cutting edge technologies,

it will be useless if the goods and services that use the technologies are blocked by regulations.

So it is essential to reform the related regulations to promote the commercialization of new technologies

and creative ideas and secure new growth engines for the future."

To that end, the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning aims to formulate new

legal frameworks... to actively and safely use artificial intelligence.

The legal frameworks will seek to minimize errors caused by artificial intelligence...

and define a chain of responsibility for accidents.

Intellectual property rights for big data will also be acknowledged.

The ministry will also invest in the VR sector... to encourage research and development and

facilitate overseas expansion.

VR bang in Korean, or gaming centers where people can enjoy VR games,... will be expanded

with the addition of safe facilities.

Lastly, the ministry will invest in systems to make financial services more convenient

through the use of fintech, or financial technology.

New systems will be made to facilitate transparent trading of virtual currencies... and robo-advisers

will be implemented for use starting this year.

Through these measures, the government expects to generate business opportunities worth roughly

4-hundred-70 billion U.S. dollars... for over 50 VR companies and 300 fintech companies

by 2020.

"New technologies change industries and cause diverse social changes.

Today we talk about these three, but our ministry will also work to come up with innovation-friendly

regulations for the Internet of Things, cloud systems, big data and self-driving cars...

to allow Korea to become an intelligence information society."

"By implementing the new measures, Korea is taking another step toward ensuring the country

is prepared for the fourth industrial revolution... so it can foster new industries and businesses...

that will hopefully improve people's quality of life.

Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News."
