BraunAbility Q-Series: Design - Duration: 2:37.

First reaction was, 'Man, these things are ugly.'

You know, I wish I could say that, you know, they were so nice that they only needed a

little bit of tweaking, but there was a great potential.

One of the quotes that I've heard is, 'Your products look like 50s farm equipment.'

We really wanted to come up with a new lift that kind of fresh to the market, you know,

it's very appealing to the eye.

The BraunAbility Inboard Lift has a number of design features that are unique and distinctive.

The curvature of the parallel arms, the vertical arm, and the towers – that curve continues

on all three elements to unify them together so that they look like they belong together.

And then the LED lights.

This design integrates them along the side rail, and they're hidden, yet they give full

visibility to the platform and the user to operate the device.

So one of the interesting things about the hand pendant in design and functionality is

the light on the side of the hand pendant.

That actually started as a mistake.

When the designer – at one point we had a short turnaround – and the designer was

coming up with different shapes.

And in the software, when you put together the two pieces, the blue and the black piece,

there was an area that he just didn't fill in.

He was in a hurry.

And when we looked at that, we decided we liked it.

It was this white strip around it and we turned it into a light.

A little serendipity for the project team.

It was important that the user understand how they can operate this in a way that is

easy and understandable.

Additionally for safety, the pendant is designed in such a way that it's protected so that

you can't accidentally activate it.

When it sits in its carriage on the vehicle, it can't be operated.

One of the design aspects we wanted to meet was that the lift would look beautiful and

stay beautiful.

So in order to achieve this, we used stainless steel on any wear surfaces so they won't rust

if the powder coat is rubbed off.

We also limited our contact with moving components and with the ground.

So we looked at making it look intentionally light, intentionally durable, and intentionally

distinctive.

All of those things together, helped us come up with the "look."

We were able to come up with a new design that is very distinctive and unique in the

marketplace and stands out from the others.

Dream For Others behind the scenes videos - Duration: 6:23.

Hi there, I thought I would give this video thing a try.

I usually like to hide behind the safety of my carefully considered words and writing.

But the beautiful Claire Baker suggested that maybe after I do a Dream For Others podcast interview

I might like to jump on and do a quick video and give you a snapshot of what some of the takeaways were

that I had throughout the conversation, what some of the shifts and epiphanies were that I experienced,

and basically just a summary of what you can expect in the upcoming episode.

So unless I wuss out, I'm going to try and do this before I release a new episode for the Dream For Others.

podcast. For those who don't know what I'm talking about - I launched this podcast late last year.

It is for big-hearted and socially conscious people who want to be of use to others and

and help somehow progress social and political change.

I've been interviewing some amazing people from all different backgrounds on how they use their

platform, passions and uniqueness to speak up, give back, or to somehow help advance some of

the most significant issues of our time.

We've had business owners, entrepreneurs, coaches, social enterprises, corporates, non-profits,

We have a lawyer at the moment, we'll have a musician coming up in the next week or so,

and an actress after that. So people from all different types of backgrounds, experiences and interest areas

talking about their story and how they ended up where they are and the issues that really matter to them

and what they're doing to try and contribute in some way to advancing them and to changing what is happening in

as well as some of the really difficult times and challenges that they have experienced by being a voice

for or against these issues and how they've dealt with them. And basically, I'm just finding them so

so incredibly inspiring. After every call I hang up and I think of so many different ways that I can do something

practical to either educate myself more on an important issue or to actually get out and do something to

that might help in some way. So I hope that when you listen that you will have a similar experience as well.

The latest episode was with Julian Burnside AO QC and he's an Australian barrister, author and

human rights + refugee advocate. We talked about so many different topics. We have a lot of common

interest areas. We talked about the importance of the arts and music and how we need to champion them

in modern society. We talked about what to think about when you are choosing a career and what not to

think about. We talked about how his path into law and advocacy was through a series of complete accidents.

We talked about refugees, especially in the Australian context - and about some of the myths and lies

that are circulating around about refugees and how you can be more informed on refugee issues

and what you can do to try and change the system, especially here in Australia for refugees in

offshore detention centres. We also spoke about how to keep on going and keep on trying to make a difference

even when we are experiencing despair and helplessness, and are really upset around what is

happening in the world and the seemingly new lows that happen or that politicians go to.

How we can continue to try and make a difference despite all of this. Julian also talked about how

he has I guess 'survived' through a number of personal attacks that he has experienced because he has

been a strong voice on these issues and so many other things! So if you have a spare hour I would love if

would go and have a listen. I've received so many wonderful notes about the conversation and

epiphanies people have had, and the parts that they've really resonated with, and how it has inspired them

Well, now today we are all set to do some work out for the chest & for the shoulders together.

Alright... so now I am not gonna choose dumbels, I am gonna choose water bottles.

Which are equal size as in of dumble

These are bigger than dumble but yes it is very easy to handle. Alright...

So, this you can get anywhere, have all these water bottles in your houe

you can get this water bottles in your office or while you are travelling you can just have these water bottles

This way you haven't go to gym or you have to busy specially dumbles

to tone up your arms, or your back muscles or for your chest exercise or for your shoulder workout.

you can work out with these.

Alright, usually we don't do workouts because we need time to go & buy some dumbels so that we can workout.

But now, no excuse. Why? Because you have these available anytime, anytime.

So, here we start with some exercise for your chest & for your shoulders.

So, Exercise No-1

Don't take it too back Alright??

Keep it just out &

Again this you can do exercise to your shoulders as well

Breath out.. It's a string brought ahead

This you can do around 10 in the beginning.

Same this you can do with this variation

What you can do is just push the bottles ahead. one...

two..... three. is just stand straight

Throw your shoulders back, your chest out, your spine straight

alright & your knees should not be locked it should be little bit bend

Just push forward .... one... here just to go .....two

five,, its all you can do around 10 to 15 in the beginning.

If you want to do variation in this ....one

We will just lift up

This is the exercise to your shoulder as well

Alright & make sure don't go, if you tone up your muscles , don't go for heavy weight

Do with the lighter weight, this you can do the repetitions slowly & gradually.

But for toning up you have to take heavier weight

The light weight you can do for toning up your muscles.

BraunAbility Q-Series: Rigid - Duration: 1:52.

With the opportunity to start a new project with the focus on quiet while driving, design

aesthetics, and light weight, it really gives us the opportunity to do something new.

To do something different.

To do something revolutionary.

Knowing that we have a customer-first mindset, we wanted to make sure that we can meet their

needs with whatever our new product might be.

Our objective changed during our research phase that it wasn't just about creating the

lightest weight lift.

It needs to have an overall feeling of: safety.

Durable.

Reliable.

These are the things that we wanted to focus on.

We wanted to have a lighter lift, but at the same time, we wanted to increase rigidity.

So one way to reduce weight while still using steel was to reduce our gauge thickness.

So we looked at FEA analysis to determine these areas we could reduce our thickness.

We also removed material in certain places where we just simply didn't need it.

We also had to keep in mind with the reduction of weight we had to increase our rigidity.

The main focus on that was the bottom parallel arm.

We did a lot of testing.

We came up with a solution that if we box in that structure, we would increase our rigidity

by approximately 300 percent.

We looked back at the work that we completed.

Everyone at BraunAbility feels that we ended up right where we wanted to be.

We've been able to use new, innovative technologies and features and incorporate them into our

lift while we've upheld our reliability and durability standards that the everyone in

the industry comes to expect from BraunAbility.

At the end of the day, this new lift has also raised the bar and it's now the new standard

for what a lift should feel like.
