"He's our president.

And it's very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time as we've had.

At the same time, it's time for us to embrace and shake hands with this fact and be constructive

with him over the next four years."

Matthew McConaughey says it's time we embrace Trump on The Andrew Marr Show.

BBC One's Marr suggested during the interview that Gold was about "redneck America sticking

one up to the snotty East Coast elites," McConaughey decided to share his thoughts

on President Donald Trump.

When Andrew Marr asked if Americans need to give the commander in chief a break, McConaughey

answered, "Well, they don't have a choice now."

The interview was done before Trump signed an executive order last Friday that instituted

a controversial immigration ban.

The actor's wife, Camila Alves, was born in Brazil, but decided to stay in Los Angeles

after visiting the city to see her aunt at the age of 15.

After working as a housecleaner and waitress, she found success as a model and officially

became a U.S. citizen in 2015.

Many of McConaughey's fellow actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Mia Farrow and Alyssa Milano,

have spoken out against the band.

What do you think of Matthew McConaughey asking us to embrace Donald Trump?

Iran rejects Trump administration's missile test warning - Duration: 2:15.

Iran has blasted the United States for its warning over a recent Iranian missile test,...

calling it baseless and repetitive.

The back and forth between Washington and Tehran is the latest sign of the strain in

relations since President Trump took office last month.

Park Jong-hong has this report.

Iran has lashed out at a warning from the United States.

In an interview with state news agency IRNA,...

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said that, instead of thanking Tehran for its continued

fight against terrorism,... the U.S. is practically helping the terrorists by making claims that

are baseless, repetitive and provocative.

He was referring to remarks by U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Flynn who condemned

Iran's recent ballistic missile test.

Flynn called the launch the latest in a series of moves by Iran that includes backing Houthi

rebels in Yemen, who have attacked U.S. allies.

Tehran maintains that its missiles are solely for defense purposes and are not designed

to carry nuclear warheads.

"We execute our plan to produce defensive equipment to defend our national goals and

interests according to our schedule, and no will power can affect our plan and decision."

Iran confirmed this week that it had tested a ballistic missile.

But it rejected claims it had violated the terms of a nuclear deal with the U.S.

On Thursday, President Trump tweeted that the Islamic republic was now formally PUT

ON NOTICE for firing a ballistic missile.

He added Iran "should have been thankful for the terrible deal the U.S. made with them

" Trump was referring to the nuclear accord

between Tehran and world powers that took effect early last year, lifting international

sanctions in return for Iran curbing its atomic program.

Sources say the U.S. is expected to impose fresh sanctions on Iranian entities that could

be announced as early as Friday.

Intonation for Strong Emotions - English Pronunciation with JenniferESL - Duration: 7:58.

Let's try a quick exercise.

I'll say a statement,

and you choose the most appropriate response.

Yes?

Yes.

Yes!

Hopefully, you responded with enthusiasm and said, "Yes!"

Yes!

What do you think?

It's beautiful?

It's beautiful.

It's beautiful!

Well, I hope you gave a compliment and said, "It's beautiful!"

Both times the most appropriate response was neither rising nor falling intonation.

It was a combination of the two.

A rise-fall.

This is one of the intonation patterns we'll practice in this video.

We'll focus on intonation to express strong emotions.

[title]

The rise-fall intonation pattern uses a sharp rise before the fall.

By "sharp" I mean it's quick and it's high.

We use this rise-fall combination to express strong emotions like...a good surprise.

Wow!

A bad surprise.

Wow.

Anger.

Idiot!

Sarcasm.

Wonderful.

And delight.

Wonderful!

You try the pattern.

What if I told you that you wouldn't have the Internet for a whole month?

How would you respond?

How would you say these words?

Again, there's a sharp rise before the fall.

Even if you have only one syllable, you need to go up and then down.

As in, "No!"

If you have more than one syllable to work with, there can be some stepping.

As in...

An exception could be questions that ask for confirmation.

Because we feel strong emotion, there's still that sharp rise, but then you continue rising.

That includes yes-no questions, for example: Really?!

Or it could be a wh- question that we need to repeat because we're so surprised by the answer.

What did you just say?!

You try the sharp rise.

What if I tell you that tomorrow you can have dinner

with your favorite celebrity at a five-star restaurant?

How would you respond?

How would you say these words?

I should note that there are alternative patterns for expressing negative emotions, like anger and disappointment.

For example, we can use level intonation, where you stay at the same pitch.

Or there can be a long fall after a short rise.

Our team just got asked to write another report.

Yay.

Our flight has just been canceled again!

Oh no.

Great.

Let's try a dialog. It'll go like this.

Now I'll be person A, and you'll be person B.

Do you know how old this umbrella is?

I got it about twenty years ago.

Really?!

I'm just the opposite.

Let's try switching. Okay?

I'll take role B, and you take role A.

How old?

You're kidding! I don't have anything older than five years.

Yeah. I don't like to hold on to things for a long time.

Be sure to practice the dialog a few times.

I'll also give you a few more models now that you can use for listen-repeat practice.

They're all models of strong emotion.

That's all for now. Thanks for watching and happy studies!

>> OHIO WAS A LEADER IN

ESTABLISHING STATE INSTITUTIONS

TO SUPPORT, HOUSE AND EDUCATE

PEOPLE WITH MENTAL AND PHYSICAL

DISABILITIES.

THERE WAS THE DEAF SCHOOL ON

TOWN STREET.

THE BLIND SCHOOL ON PARSONS

AVENUE AND ON THE WEST SIDE OF

THE CITY WERE THE MENTAL

INSITUTIONS.

AND WE ARE GOING TO PULL UP AND

VISIT THE DEAF SCHOOL ON EAST

TOWN STREET.

WE'RE ON EAST TOWN STREET IN

DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS IN THE TOPIARY

PARK WHICH IS THE SITE OF THE

OLD OHIO STATE SCHOOL FOR THE

DEAF.

IT BEGAN HERE IN THE 1830's WITH

SEVERAL BUILDINGS AND IT WAS AN

IMPORTANT INSTITUTION THAT

SERVED PEOPLE ALL OVER THE STATE

WHO HAD THE DISABILITY OF NOT

BEING ABLE TO HEAR.

OVER TIME SEVERAL BUILDINGS WERE

BUILT, BUT THEY WERE ALL SWEPT

AWAY IN THE 1860's WHEN A LARGE

MAIN BUILDING WAS BUILT AT THE

BACK OF THE SITE ON THE NORTH

SIDE.

AS TIME WENT ON AND MORE AND

MORE STUDENTS ARRIVED AT THE

SCHOOL THEY HAD TO BUILD A NEW

EDUCATIONAL BUILDING.

THAT WAS BUILT IN 1899 AT THE

WEST EDGE OF THE PARK.

THE DEAF SCHOOL STAYED AT THE

TOWN STREET SITE UNTIL 1959 WHEN

IT MOVED TO MORRIS ROAD WHERE IT

REMAINS TODAY.

THAT LEFT TWO LARGE EMPTY

BUILDINGS STILL OWNED BY THE

STATE OF OHIO AND FOR MANY YEARS

THE STATE USED THEM AS OFFICE

BUILDINGS.

IN THE 1970's THE STATE VACATED

THESE BUILDINGS AND THEIR FUTURE

WAS UNCERTAIN.

THEN IN 1981 THE 1860's BUILDING

CAUGHT FIRE AND HAD A LOT OF

DAMAGE.

DURING THE DEMOLITION OF THAT

BUILDING AFTER THE FIRE, THE

CONTRACTOR PUNCHED TWO HOLES IN

THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL

BUILDING.

I GUESS THINKING HE WOULD GET

THE CONTRACT TO DEMOLISH THAT

BUILDING AS WELL.

BUT THE CITY RECREATION AND

PARKS DEPARTMENT HAD ALREADY

ACCEPTED THE PROPERTY AS A

PUBLIC PARK AND WANTED THAT

BUILDING PRESERVED SO THEY

STOPPED THE DEMOLITION.

RECREATION AND PARKS THEN

DEVELOPED THE TOPIARY PARK,

INSPIRED BY TWO PARK EMPLOYEES

WHO DESIGNED THE PARK TO

REPRESENT THE PAINTING IN THE

COLLECTION OF THE ART INSTITUTE

OF CHICAGO.

THE FAMOUSE POINTILLIST PAINTING

BY GEORGE SEURAT'S "SUNDAY

AFTERNOON ON THE ISLAND OF LE

GRANDE JATTE."

THE OLD SCHOOL BUILDING, THE

1899 BUILDING HAD BEEN

REHABILITATED IN 1980S AS AN

OFFICE BUILDING AND WHEN THAT

USE ENDED, THE HIGH SCHOOL SORT

OF DISCOVERED THE BUILDING AND

THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GOOD

PLACE -- LET'S PUT A SCHOOL IN A

SCHOOL BUILDING AND THAT'S HOW

IT CAME ABOUT THAT IT HAS

RETURNED TO ITS FUNCTION AS A

SCHOOL.

THIS IS ONE OF THE TWO MAIN

ENTRANCES ON THE EAST SIDE OF

THE OLD DEAF SCHOOL BUILDING.

THEY'RE REALLY INTERESTING

ARCHITECTURALLY, THE BUILDING'S

STYLE IS KNOWN AS JACOBETHAN

REVIVAL.

THAT'S AN ARCHITECTURAL STYLE

THAT COMBINES ENGLISH PRECEDENCE

AND FRENCH PRECEDENCE AND SO ON,

BUT IT'S REALLY UNIQUE TO THIS

BUILDING.

YOU'LL NOTICE TO THE SHIELD UP

ABOUT WITH THE BACKWARD "D", THE

"D'S" ARE BACK TO BACK STANDING

FOR DEAF AND DUMB.

THOSE ARE TERMS WE DON'T USE ANY

MORE, BUT THEY WERE CLINICAL

TERMS AT THE TIME THIS BUILDING

WAS BUILT.

SO IT'S A MEASURE OF HOW THINGS

CHANGE OVER TIME.

LET'S GO INSIDE AND HAVE A LOOK

AROUND.

IN THE RENOVATION FOR COLUMBUS

HIGH SCHOOL A LOT OF THE

ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES WERE

RETAINED INTACT.

THE GYM CEILING, WOOD CEILING IS

STILL ORIGINAL.

THE WOOD FLOORS, THERE ARE AREAS

THAT HAVE BEEN PATCHED WHERE

WOULD WAS DAMAGED OR MISSINGS.

WE'RE IN ONE OF THE CLASSROOMS

AND I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO

JIM FOLEY WHO'S PRESIDENT OF THE

HIGH SCHOOL.

HI, JIM.

GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN --

>> HI, JEFF.

>> IN THIS WONDERFUL FACILITY.

JIM, CLEARLY THIS IS AN OLD

BUILDING, HOW DID YOU MAKE A

MODERN HIGH SCHOOL OUT OF AN OLD

HIGH SCHOOL?

>> WE WANTED TO KEEP IT

HISTORICALLY ACCURATE, BUT WE

ALSO WANTED TO ADD TO A MODERN

TOUCH, MODERN TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE

IT AN EDUCATIONALLY CUTTING EDGE

FACILITY.

SO FOR EXAMPLE ON THE HISTORIC

SIDE, THE FLOORS WHEN WE WALKED

IN WERE HORRIBLE.

BUT THEY'VE BEEN SANDED DOWN AND

FINISHED AND THEY LOOK BEAUTIFUL

NOW AND WE'RE WALKING ON

1899 FLOORS HERE.

THE CEILINGS HAD BEEN DROPPED TO

A RIDICULOUS POINT, THAT CUT OUT

ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WINDOWS WE

HAVE IN HERE.

AND IN AN EDUCATIONAL FACILITY

YOU WANT TO HAVE WINDOWS.

SO WE RAISED THE CEILINGS UP

BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL HEIGHT,

BUT THEN WE HAVE MODERN

TECHNOLOGY.

THE ENTIRE SCHOOL IS WIRELESS.

SO TECHNOLOGICALLY IT'S A VERY

CUTTING EDGE INSTITUTION AND A

VERY BEAUTIFUL BUILDING.

>> TELL US ABOUT CHRISTO RAY

HIGH SCHOOL, THE MODEL OF IT,

HOW IT SERVES THE COMMUNITY,

IT'S DIFFERENT FROM MOST HIGH

SCHOOLS ISN'T IT?

>> IT'S A COLLEGE PREP SCHOOL

THAT IS DESIGNED TO BE

AFFORDABLE FOR FAMILIES THAT

COULD NOT OTHER AFFORD A GOOD,

STRONG PRIVATE COLLEGE PREP

EDUCATION.

THE UNIQUE FEATURE OF CHRISTO

RAY IS THAT WE HAVE A WORK STUDY

PROGRAM.

ALL OF THE STUDENTS WORK FIVE

FULL DAYS A MONTH.

AND THAT DOES TWO THINGS.

ON THE ONE HAND, IT PROVIDES THE

INCOME TO SUPPORT THE BUILDING

AND SECONDLY WHAT IT DOES, IS IT

ALLOWS THE KIDS TO BE IN A

PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT AND TO

RUB SHOULDERS WITH PROFESSIONALS

AND TO LEARN FROM THEM AND TO BE

MENTORED BY THEM.

AND THE RESULTS ARE THAT AT

CHRISTO RAY SCHOOLS THROUGH OUT

THE COUNTRY, EVERY SENIOR AT

EVERY GRADUATING SCHOOL HAS AT

LEAST ONE COLLEGE OFFER ON

GRADUATION DAY.

SO THAT'S A SUCCESS STORY WE ARE

NOW A PART OF.

>> WELL JIM, YOU'VE CERTAINLY

DONE A GREAT JOB HERE, TAKING A

BUILDING THAT LOOKED LIKE IT

DIDN'T HAVE MUCH OF A FUTURE AND

REALLY GIVING IT ONE FOR THE

FORESEEABLE FUTURE.

AND IT REALLY TELLS US HOW

IMPORTANT IT IS THAT WE KEEP

LANDMARKS IN OUR COMMUNITY, THEY

KEEP US ANCHORED IN TIME, THEY

GIVE US A SENSE OF PLACE AND

REMIND US OF HOW IMPORTANT THESE

INSTITUTIONS ONCE WERE IN THE

STATE OF OHIO.
