First thing I should say is that the math community is a wonderful community.

We take joy in what we do, and we love helping people see the world through a mathematical

lens.

At the same time I would say that we suffer from the same problems that maybe our broader

culture does.

We often idolize achievements, and we think that — the problem with that is that you

end up thinking that only certain people, if they're going to achieve at the highest

levels, belong in mathematics.

It would be like in saying in music saying that music is only for the Beethovens and

the Bachs, rather than saying that everybody can enjoy music and everyone can create music.

What happens then in mathematics, if you fall into that trap, is that you end up thinking

that certain people are math people and certain people aren't math people.

Bias can creep in.

We can inadvertently start shepherding some people to math and other people not to math.

And I would say: No.

Math is for everybody.

Math helps everybody flourish, no matter what profession you end up in.

Everybody should learn and enjoy more math.

19-Linux Network Configuration ( Firewall config with firewalld ) By IT Training and Tutorials - Duration: 3:58.

As much fun as editing iptables rules is, there's a slightly more user-friendly way to do it

FirewallD is a management tool for the iptables firewall package and you'll find it

recent versions of CentOS, RedHat Enterprise Linux and Fedora

FirewallD blocks incoming traffic by default except for SSH and other services

that might have been configured during install

We access FirewallD through the firewall-cmd command and pass all of our parameters as options

As with the previous example, let's startup Netcat, listening this time on port 5454

So, I'll type nc -l for listen 5454 and I'll check from my other machine

that I can communicate with it. I'll type nc 10.0.2.11 which I know is my IP for the other machine, 5454. ( No luck )

So back on the other machine, let's use firewall-cmd to add a rule giving us access to this instance of Netcat

To start, I'll type firewall-cmd and now we'll start adding options.

I can see what options are available here by adding two dashes

which is how options start, and then pressing tab until I see some options

There's a whole lot more options than we'll go through here but this gives you an idea of everything that you can do

You can page through it with space. What I want to do is add a port, but to do that

I need to specify a zone where my port will be added

For more complex setup, zones let you define different groups of rules for different interfaces

Right now, I'll just use the public zone which is the default.

So I'll put --zone=public and then I can add my port with --add-port=5454/tcp

I need to specify the port number and the protocol I want to allow through

And I'll add the permanent option here

to make sure this rule would persist through a reboot

otherwise, the rules we add are temporary

Then, for the rule to take effect, I'll reload the firewall with firewall-cmd --reload.

Now on my other machine, I can connect and the service works

I can send information through port 5454 (keyboard clicking) and I can verify that by looking here

Back on this machine, let's remove access through port 5454

The command is similar, but instead we'll use remove port, and again

I'll reload the firewall.

I'll move back to my other machine and type something else.

Information hasn't come across and if I cancel and try to connect again (no luck)

As with iptables, there's a lot more to FirewallD than I can cover here

but because it has a really approachable syntax, you'll pick it up quickly. See you in the next video

Third party apps can play a big part in optimizing your Facebook page.

Choose from hundreds of third-party app integrations, including Instagram,

Twitter, and Pinterest.

There's no limit to how many apps can be added to your page,

but be sure to feature only those that support your business objectives.

For example, if you want to grow your email subscriber list,

an app like MailChimp lets visitors opt-into your email newsletter without

navigating away from Facebook.

If you have a brick and mortar business, including address and contact information

is particularly important.

Your location will ensure that search engines index you in local search results and

gives your customers an easy way to contact you.

This will also add a map on your profile, so if you don't need visitors to find your

physical location, you may want to skip this field and dedicate the profile

space to other page elements.

To help build community, you can feature other business's Facebook Pages.

This is a great way to build valuable working relationships with other companies

that share a similar vision.

To feature other pages, you'll first need to like the page, and then add the

featured likes column to your Page.

Hey everyone! Welcome to the Tech Exchange: Ideas for Staff by Staff.

Today we're in our Marshalltown office and you'll never guess who I found who has our tech tip for today!

I'm very good, hey we just though we'd stop by

so you could share a tool with us that you find makes your job more efficient and effective.

Oh gladly!

Cari, I've been using a new add-on

through Google Sheets called EZ Query.

EZ Query allows you to build new tabs

inside of a spreadsheet

to filter only the information that you need.

So, if I was having multiple teachers record information on the same Google form...

about a behavior for a specific student

I could then sort

by teacher to see how that student is doing for that particular teacher?

Yes. You can use EZ Query for that.

...Or if I was collecting responses from staff I could sort by the staff person's name?

Yes! Let me show you how it works.

Ok, here's my spreadsheet and you can see down across the bottom it says working document

so this will be the document that we're going to query.

So, first off we're going to start up here...at the add-ons.

Since I already have EZ Query

We're just gonna get you started...you wanna go to add-ons...

and in the search i want to tell it to find

EZ...that's all you need to type.

Since I already have EZ Query loaded mine tells me to manage...

But when you put it down, as a download...

you're gonna see in that green box, it says free with a plus sign.

So, just click that and it'll start to download.

Then you'll come back up to the add-on

and you'll find EZ Query

right under your add-ons.

You need to come tell it to create a sheet

And tell me more about the sheet you have there Sandy.

The sheet that I have here is...was...

a copy of the applications that people have requested to put onto their ipads.

and it is...full of...

educational assistants, the SLPs, the SLPAs...

I have OTPTs...

So, there's a lot of information that I would have to go through

and cut and paste, but when you do a query

it does the work for ya.

So, first off, let's start with the audiologists.

So, if I tell it that I want to name the next sheet up...

we're gonna name it "audiologist".

I don't need all of the columns to go into my next tab

I just need first and last name...

which is column B and column C.

I need column F which is a description of the application.

and I need H which is the cost of the application.

I wanna come down to filter

I want it to filter column E because that's where all of the disciplines are located.

And because I'm filtering for just the audiologist...

and it's asking me what column I'm looking at

I want it to go to E which is where the disciplines are located.

I want it to contain, not equal, so that way in case...

something gets spelled a little differently, it'll still be able to find it.

So, if I come in and I tell it audiologist

and then I want to add to make a new tab

and then down at the bottom it'll create it.

So now my new tab is down across the bottom and it does say audiologist

and these are the audiologists.

and this is the applications that they've ordered...

and this is the cost of each application.

So, now if you wanna go back out and search for a different

go back up to add-ons

come back to EZ Query and create another sheet.

Wow! that sure makes sorting data really easy!

because once you get the tabs built and you get it to filter

you only get the information that you need

you don't have to spend your time scrolling through the database

trying to find the information that you need

because it will be on the tab that you just created.
