(Nathan) We've had a lot of guys tell us that man,
you guys always go to the best lakes, you go at the
best times, you go during the week when you know,
nobody else is out there on the water.
Sure, you catch some fish and have a good time, but
what about the rest of us weekend guys that just get
to go every once in a while, when we can and it's always
on the weekend, go to a lake maybe you've never
been before, well you're going to get your wish this time.
We're going to Parksville Lake in Tennessee.
It's on the Ocoee River, sometimes it's known as
the Ocoee Lake, it's right outside of Cleveland.
We've never been here but we got to get down here to
the lake and Kevin Powers is already there.
His daughter had a basketball tournament in Cleveland,
so he's hanging out down there, already waiting on
us and when we get there we've got big D Coates manning
  the camera.
It's supposed to have some really big spotted bass.
  It's late December.
  I think it's December the 30th.
We're going to go down and spend a couple of days on
a brand spanking new strange lake and see if we can't
catch enough to do a show.
Here's the deal if we don't catch them, you're still
going to get to see it and if we catch them it'll be a
  good show.
I'm Nathan Light and welcome to 3B Outdoors.

  (MUSIC)
(Nathan) It's going to be a good day.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
  (Kevin) Let's go catch them.
(Nathan) How many big spots you got in you?
(Kevin) I need 10 spots today.
  (Nathan) 10
(Kevin) I just need four bigger than Nathan's though.
(Nathan) We're back to the basics.
The only map we could find was a little bit online stuff
  down here.
As you can see somebody's went in there and marked it up.
We're going to come in here and try to fish some of
these old long sloping points but this is our tool of
  the day right here.
As you can see no contours or anything, so we're back to
the basics but let's see if we can't get it done.
  (Kevin) What's that there?
(Nathan) Hoover is what I call it.
  Like that right there.
  I'm seriously went down.
It might have been on the bottom but it went, it hoovered.
(laughter) I'm not laughing at you.
(Kevin) Cause you know what's going to happen?
  (Nathan) What?
  (Kevin) Sooner or later?
(Nathan) I'm not going to be up there.
Never will I be up there.
(Kevin) Never will you be up there?
  (Nathan) No.
Bobber up there, 14 foot deep.
Yeah, there's the first one of the day boys. First cast.
(Kevin) Tell them what we've been doing wrong.
(Nathan) We have been up here, three hours and haven't had
a bite, not in here, man it's been tough.
This place is beautiful, got a little bit of wind, cloudy
all day and we should be able to bust them but that's
  an accomplishment right there.
I changed my bobber depth to 14 feet, first cast got a bite.
I may not get another one all day but it's a first one.
You got to have one before you can have two.
(Kevin) Look over there. Look over there, right there.
(Nathan) Is that a tight line fish?
(Kevin) That is a tight linen fish.
  (Nathan) You've done good boy.
(Kevin) That's a little bit better one.
  (Nathan) That's a better one.
(Kevin) You can see him down there 10 foot under water.
  This water is so clear.
(Nathan) Boy, it's pretty, isn't it?
  (Kevin) Look at that.
(Nathan) That is a fat one.
(Kevin) Oh he's fat, he's just a fish though.
  (Nathan) That's number two.
I told you we had to have one before we got two. Parksville.
  (Kevin) Parksville Lake.
(Nathan) We're still in the state of Tennessee, Ocoee River.
(Kevin) Not big, maybe they'll get bigger during the day
  here whatever.
  Get back in there.
  (Nathan) That a boy Kevin.
(Kevin) That's a head shaker here.
  (Nathan) Oh my goodness.
(Kevin) That's a big old spot.
(Nathan) That's a big spot right there. Golly, holy cow.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Nathan) Do you want me to help you?
(Kevin) No, not yet. He's not done yet.
  (Nathan) Oh goodness.
  I'm throwing a stupid bobber and you're throwing a
tight line, something's wrong with this.
  (Kevin) Look at that.
(Nathan) Oh my goodness, look how pretty that thing is.
  (Kevin) Look what a spot.
(Nathan) Boy, that's a beautiful one there.
(Kevin) Oh come here, let me touch you.
Let me touch you, let me touch you, oww, let me tough you.
  He broke my line.
(Nathan) Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?
  (Kevin) Awww!
(Nathan) I seen him though he was a big one.
  I've got a tree bass.
I was trying to get it up here right on these rocks, on
  this point.
I don't think that one will come back Kev.
That's one of my favorite ones too.
Is that a good one too?
(Kevin) Feels like a real good one. Now, nope.
(Nathan) Is that a small mouth?
(Kevin) No, is that a small mouth?
  (Nathan) It's a small mouth.
  (Kevin) That's a small.
(Nathan) They don't count do they?
  (Kevin) I think it's a spot.
  (Nathan) Is it a spot?
  (Kevin) I can't tell but it's a spot though.
I see a lateral line on it.
That's a spot. It could be a mean mouth.
(Nathan) That's what it looks like.
He looks like a small mouth to me.
  (Kevin) He's got the color.
  Aw, yeah, alright.
I think we figured something out now.
Four bites in the last 15, 20 minutes.
(Nathan) Yeah and what are you doing and what am I doing?
  (Kevin) That's what I'm doing.
  I don't know what he's doing.
  He's wasting time. That's a good fish.
(Nathan) That's a really good fish.
(Kevin) It was snowing a few minutes ago, spitting snow.
  So.
(Nathan) And here again this is accomplishment.
(Kevin) Brand new lake, never been here before,
  they're eating a tight line.
  (Nathan) What am I doing?
  (Kevin) I don't know what you're doing.
  I don't know what you're doing.
(Nathan) Yes baby, tell me about it.
  I've dropped shotted one.
(Kevin) That's something totally out of Nathan's realm.
  (Nathan) That's right.
  (Kevin) Look at that.
  (Nathan) Look at that boy.
  See there, yeah.
Got that big old sinko hanging out of his jaw. Oh, golly.
  (Kevin) What happened?
(Nathan) He got off too. Good night
(Kevin) I didn't see nothing. Did you see anything?
(Nathan) Our execution needs some work now.
  (Kevin) Here's one.
  (MUSIC)

  (COMMERCIALS)
  (Kevin) Here's one.
  (Nathan) Kevin's got another one.
We've got them figured out right here now boys.
(Kevin) It's not very big I don't believe.
(Nathan) Hey, we, let me help you on this one if he's
  really big.
(Kevin) He's about like those other two.
He's got these good solid keepers over here.
  Look how pretty they are.
  (Nathan) Oh, they're beautiful.
(Kevin) Clear water, I think I just had a big one tie up
with him in the bush area.
  Look at that.
You think they haven't been feeding, look at that belly
  on that thing.
(Nathan) This is fun right here now.
One of the fun parts is solving the riddle, you know.
(Kevin) Dark, you can see the bottom down 10 foot right here.
Let's get it back in there and catch another one.
  (Nathan) That a boy Kev.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
  (Kevin) Alright.
  (Nathan) Here we go now.
  (Kevin) Good one?
(Nathan) Yeah, it's a good one.
(Kevin) Are you going to need some help with this one?
  (Nathan) I don't know I ain't seen him.
  (Kevin) Ain't seen him yet?
(Nathan) Just a head shaker. Yeah.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
  (Kevin) That a boy.
  (Nathan) Look there now.
  (Kevin) Look at that.
(Nathan) Look at that fat belly.
Look at that little tongue patch right there.
Yeah, they like that little drop shot.
Fat, man that is a beautiful little fish right there.
  Alright.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Nathan) There we go, see I like it, I like it.
Coates and Kevin had a little bet.
You know I like to tight line, Kevin's been getting bit
on tight line, that I would be, how long did you say?
Three minutes after you caught the next one.
(Kevin) Yeah, I caught the second one now the third one.
(Nathan) And you just said what?
(Kevin) I said where's me a drop shot at?
  (Nathan) Drop shot.
(Kevin) You've had like three bites on a drop shot.
Okay, Nathan's convinced me to tie on a drop shot.
I'm going to show you how to do it real quick.
Most people like to start out with 8, maybe 10 inches'
line below their hook, make you a polymer, take it
around the hook, always wet it.
A lot of people don't wet their line and it burns
their line when you pull it tight.
With the tag in now you're going to take it and run
it through the top of the hook because you want the hook
to stand up when you're drop shotting and what's that
going to do is when you bring it back through you're
going to actually pull the knot through the eye of
the hook and it's going to make the hook standout.
When you pull the line and the hook should stand up
about like that right there, tie your weight on the
  bottom, you're good to go.
(Nathan) Well that's a good one.
Look how pretty that thing is.
  (Kevin) Look at that.
  He's down there deep.
I don't think they seen many gulps here in their lifetime.
  Look at that.
Boy, let me just touch it, let me just touch it.
  Oh, I touched it.
(Nathan) We just fished too shallow.
We might be able to put a little hurting on them now.
  Good job Kev.
(Kevin) That's got some real head shake to it, don't it?
Look at him, I'll go forward and take care of the boat.
Oh, that's a, oh my gosh.
(Nathan) This is what we've been looking for.
(Kevin) This is a toad right here.
  (laughter) Look at this fish.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Kevin) That's the one we've been looking for, just like
I said, Nathan's going to catch a big one.
  (Nathan) Look at that.
(Kevin) What you got there boss?
(Nathan) We got a boss toad right there now.
(Kevin) Oh, look how pretty that spot is.
(Nathan) Let me get that thing out.
(Kevin) That's the way you do there.
(Nathan) Beautiful fish, pretty, pretty spotted bass.
  Parksville Lake what a fight.
Man, he was gone like a flash. I love it baby.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Nathan) I didn't even get my rod back in the water.
  (Kevin) Oh, just another one.
  (Nathan) That's a chunky one.
  (Kevin) Just another one.
(Nathan) Hey, we just come to play today.
I'm telling you we just want to see if we can get them
  to bite.
  Boat flipping. That a boy.
(Kevin) Four-pound line, look at that, right on top of
the head, right where it's supposed to be.
We've figured them out guys, I tell you.
We struggled all morning, fished probably about
three hours and never had a bite.
Started fishing deeper in the last hour, 15, 20
minutes, probably 10 or 12 fish, and Nathan just
got through catching a big one and you all saw that.
We're going to catch some more.
It's starting to rain, maybe snow a little bit.
Get him back in the water. Thank you mister fish.
  (Nathan) Road trip
  (Kevin) Road trip.
(Nathan) Alright right around this point right here, you
can see how that wind's a howling probably blowing 15
to 20 and we've got out of it just inside this little
bend right here and it's calm.
Kevin's been able to shake his little minnow out
through there and I've been able to keep my drop shot
on the bottom and we found a little cubby of them.
(Kevin) Guys when you come fishing you need to bring
two things this time of year.
Well of course gulp minnow, and some pocket rockets.
This is a homemade one right here.
Just took a big bell sinker, ball sinker, run me some
wire through it, twist it up on both ends, you slide,
I mean it's real easy to tie on, take it wrap it
around three, four times on both ends, when it gets
hung it actually slides up and down through there and if
it usually knocks it lose on the very first try
sometimes you got to sit there and shake it or whatever
but this right here will save you tons of money.

Let me know if you need help now.
(Nathan) It's a pretty good one now.
(Kevin) Another big one, I see it.
  (Nathan) Golly.
(Kevin) Oh look at him spit up stuff.
(Nathan) Drop shot baby. Look at that.
(Kevin) You're going to make me throw a drop shot ain't you?
(Nathan) No, you keep tight lining.
I wouldn't want you to catch any of these big ones.
Oh, my goodness, no, no, don't do that, don't do that, I
  got you.
  Looky there.
He got it, he wasn't going nowheres look there, right
  at the top of this.
(Kevin) He's daring me to throw a drop shot.
He wasn't going, nowhere was he?
(Nathan) No, he was pinned up good.
(Kevin) Look at that. Pretty fish.
  (Nathan) You talk about fat.
(Kevin) Look how fat they are.
He spit up a bunch of stuff right there when he was
  coming up.
(Nathan) He lost three pound, didn't he?
  (Kevin) Yeah, (laughter)
(Nathan) Oh man that is fun. Drop shot, yeah.
  (Kevin) Where's my drop shot?
You're going to make me throw it.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Nathan) Look at that water how pretty they are.
(Kevin) I want to catch queen of the river.
  Oh, you ain't nothing special.
  (Nathan) He is today.
(Kevin) He's wanting to play though.
  Look at that.
Look how fat they are. They're healthy, look at them.
  (Nathan) Beautiful fish.
  (Kevin) Oh, sorry. (laughter)
  (Nathan) That a boy Kev.
That's what you call no look cast.
  (Kevin) I was helping him.
I was sitting there and felt it ticking and just sent
  the hook.
There's another chunk that's all it is.
(Nathan) No, it's a good one.
  (Kevin) Just another chunk.
(Nathan) He's right at the end of that tree yonder.
  That a boy.
  Golly did you see that?
  Boy they're pretty, aren't they?
  (Kevin) Yeah.
Oh, just barely had him hooked.
Look at that, catch a bunch of these but every now and
then you catch one like he did.
Oh, go back to your friend's buddy.
  (Nathan) That a boy.
  Hey, we figured them out.
I mean we've got it narrowed down to two baits.
I mean it only took us how long?
  (Outdoor Sounds)
  (Nathan) You've got to share.
  (Kevin) Thank you Donna.
(Nathan) Look here, fudge, homemade turtles,
  peanut butter balls.
Oh, my goodness, big spotted bass.
This could very well be our last stop of the day.
Even though it's not late in the day, we're supposed to
get some heavy rains and wind and stuff, we've had
  an awesome day so far.
(Kevin) I've had a great day so far.
(Nathan) We showed you what it's like, just pulling up
on a brand-new body of water, trying to put
something together and we haven't caught any great
old big fish, but man we've been respectable.
  It's been really fun.
(Kevin) For never been here before I mean you
can't complain a bit about what we've done today.
(Nathan) No, I mean this is a great way to close out
  the 2016 year.
We're going to stay out here and fish all night,
and celebrate the new year in the morning?
  (Kevin) No
(Nathan) That a boy. They're eating that gulp.
(Kevin) They're eating that gulp. He was down there deep.
(Nathan) I'm going to have switch me
  (Kevin) No, you can't.
(Nathan) I've got to. You're putting it on me too bad.
(Kevin) Gah, talking about some good eating.
(Nathan) We're going to put you in time out.
  (Kevin) Look at that.
(Nathan) That's all, I'm going to the tight line.
  You've done made me mad.
(Kevin) I've done made you mad?
I knew it would only take him about 10, 12 fish before
  he'd switch over.
  (Nathan) I'm switching over.
I've had all I can take.
  Look at that boys.
I finally, Kevin has put on a tight lining clinic all
day and I finally picked up the tight line, brought
it through that tree limb up there and banged a little spot.
Boy, they're just beautiful. Man, it's been fun. I mean fun.
(Kevin) How does it feel to catch one tight line?
  (Nathan) It feels good.
I've been watching you catch them all day long.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Kevin) Is he out there pretty deep?
(Nathan) Yeah, he's out there pretty deep. That's cool.
(Kevin) Look how pretty they are down there deep.
  That water is so clear.
(Nathan) That's a chunker right there man.
(Kevin) Gah, we've caught a ton of that, that same
  size today.
  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Kevin) Ah, he's just a player, that's all he is.
  Look at that.
  (Nathan) Sardine
(Kevin) Sardine, that's a fish sandwich back home,
  I guarantee you.
Kind of got some sandpaper for teeth, look at that.
It's one stick to your thumb.
  Catch another one.
It's been a good day though.
(Nathan) It's been a really good day.
(Kevin) For us not knowing the lake at all, and coming
down here and catching as many as we have today.
(Nathan) We still don't know the lake.
(Kevin) No, we don't, just that one holler over there man.
(Nathan) We need a six pounder, don't we?
(Kevin) Oh, don't we now, okay.
(Nathan) I mean you know six-pound spot would
  really just be
  (Kevin) icing on the cake?
  (Nathan) Yeah.

  (Outdoor Sounds)
(Nathan) Come here big boy, you're good, you're
  good, looky there.
That's a pretty picture right there, that little
gulp hanging out of his head.
Pretty fish man, that's what I'm talking about right
  there, spotted bass.
  Boy they are mean feisty.
I seen him go down for 30 feet it looked like.
I mean look at this, what more could you want man?
I mean, we figured it out a little bit.
I fight, I fought the tight lining all day long,
Kevin wore it out and I fought it but I finally picked it
up and got a bite or two on it and that right there
will probably finish up the day right there.
So, hope you've enjoyed hanging out with us and
hope that shows you that we're just normal joes.
We just load up and go and see if we can catch them.
Today turned out to be a pretty good day even though
it was really, really slow to start with.
We thought we was going to have to drag out
the chartreuse dynamite but a beautiful place down
here, Parksville Lake, out on the Ocoee River, what a day.
